The Team Sport of Success 💪🙏
Being your best self is a team sport. Since that's the case, be protective and selective of your inner circle squad by not allowing the motion, status, and popularity of someone to blind you from their true character. To be God-led means seeing beyond the exterior motion and recognizing what really matters - their heart.
David: The Motion Underdog 🔍
There's no better example of seeing past external motion than David's story. When God was searching for His king, Jesse (David's father) lined up seven sons - but David wasn't even invited to the lineup. Why? David appeared to have zero motion. No flashy exterior. No obvious potential.
But here's the truth bomb: David was God's chosen NOT because of visible motion, but DESPITE looking like he had none. What God saw wasn't what everyone else missed - it was David's heart. A heart fully committed to serving God, even when nobody was watching.
Defining Motion: More Than Surface Level 👀
Motion = Looking like you're winning externally
Fire social media presence
Luxurious lifestyle flex
Crowd's loud adoration
God's Real Performance Metrics 📊
Bible verses that break it down:
1 Samuel 16:7 (The Message): "Looks aren't everything. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart." 🎯
Matthew 7:16 (The Message): "Don't be impressed with charisma; look for character." 💯
My Journey: The Heart Behind the Words 💡🤲
My motivation for writing this is to empower us to be our best selves. Of course that calls for us to allow God to transform us through His process of sanctification. But it also calls for us to select friends, teammates, employees, spouses and girlfriends the way God selected kings.
If I am honest, in the past I selected friends, employers, employees and girlfriends based solely on the motion they had - followers, status, popularity and money. While I did, I overlooked those without motion, yet had a heart that was after God. I am not proud to admit it, but for the sake of our growth I will own and share it.
The consequence was broken hearts, empty promises, being taken advantage of and being influenced to be less than what God called me to be.
Reflection Questions 🤔❓
Can you resonate with that? If so, take a moment and:
List those you mistakenly allowed to be on your team who had motion but lacked heart
What were the consequences?
List those who had the heart yet lacked the motion and reflect on the consequence of not allowing them to be on your team
How did overlooking true character impact your journey?
Additional Questions to Consider:
How can I better discern true character over external motion?
Where in my life am I still judging by appearance instead of heart?
What steps can I take to align my team selection with God's perspective?
Bottom line: Real motion isn't about what people see - it's about what God sees in your heart. Stay committed. Stay true. 🙌
