I Ain't Him, But I Know Him
The Young Hoopers' Favorite Phrase 🙄
Being that I'm a mentor and a coach to high school and college aged hoopers, I am frequently reminded that no matter what I do, "I ain't him" and that "I ain't like that."
The Never-Ending Challenge 💪
I will win five straight games of one on one, and still Evo, one of my clients will yell, "you're still not him."
Make 10 straight three pointers from deep and brothers, Ryan and Chase will yell, "I don't care, you still not like that!"
I threw up 225 for ten reps only for Miller to say, "bruh, I don't care you ain't him."
The Truth About Being 'Him' 🤔
No matter what I do, these young haters will never tell me that I am him, and while we, like most other athletes frequently joke about being 'him', the truth is, I'm not him, and you know what, that's ok.
Finding Your Godfidence 🙏
As we navigate this life with the swag needed to humbly win big - Godfidence - we must get to know God, and His word for ourselves. When we do, we will discover that the source of success is not being him, but knowing Him and how He feels about and sees us.
The Power Phrase 💫
That being the case, it led me to write this power phrase for us to move through life and competition. It's the phrase I will tell Ryan, Chase, Evo, Miller along with the rest of my haters, and I encourage you all to do the same:
I ain't Him, but I know Him. To know Him is to know how loved you are, how empowered you are, how forgiven you are, and that He gifted you His Spirit to overcome all the hell and hate that stands in your way. Because of that, even though I have correctly concluded I am nowhere close to being Him, I can humbly do 'Him things' on behalf of Him, all because I know Him and how much He loves me.
That said, I ain't like that, but He is!
Parting Take Away and Verses 📖
Understanding Godfidence (From my book, God X Basketball, you should check it out!)
Self-confidence can take you only so far. There will be times in your life and playing career when the challenges you are going through exceed the confidence you have in yourself. During those times, if you don't navigate through life with "Godfidence," you will crumble.
Godfidence is confidence on steroids. It's unshakable: No matter how bad things appear, you believe not in yourself but in the God who made you and is with you to overcome all adversity.
